salmon and fish tag

Updated November 7, 2011

Under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued Biological and Conference Opinion's (BO) for the Long-Term Operations of the State Water Project (SWP) and Central Valley Project (CVP), for delta smelt, Chinook salmon, steelhead trout, green sturgeon and other listed species (USFWS 2008 and NMFS 2009). Similarly, under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA) the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) issued a longfin smelt incidental take permit (ITP) for the SWP (DFG 2009). Each of these permits includes a series of Reasonable and Prudent Alternatives (RPA) or mitigation measures intended to mitigate or minimize the project's effects on the aforementioned listed species.

This website serves as a centralized point for dissemination of reports and analyses as required or requested by NMFS, USFWS, or DFG as part of their RPA's or mitigation measures as they pertain to SWP operations. Future updates to this page will include links to additional project information and/or reports as they become available.

The required actions pertinent to DWR for each of the permits are listed here:
