Overview
DWR is currently evaluating the environmental impacts of the
Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP). The BDCP's purpose is to provide for the conservation of at-risk
species in the Delta and improve its reliability as the hub of the state's water supply system.
A joint Environmental Impact Report (EIR)/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for BDCP is being
prepared. DWR will serve as the lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
and will work in cooperation with the federal lead and co-lead agencies: the U.S. Bureau of
Reclamation, the National Marine Fishery Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The draft EIR/EIS is expected
to be ready for public review and comment by late 2009/early 2010. View the proposed
schedule, or read
some frequently asked questions
about the environmental review process. DWR will host public meetings throughout the environmental
review process. Listed below is more information on public meetings conducted to date.

In-water Geotechnical Drilling Public Comment Period
DWR is the Lead State Agency for the Bay Delta Conservation Plan In-water Geotechnical Drilling Project
under the California Environmental Quality Act and has prepared a Draft Initial Study and Mitigated
Negative Declaration. DWR is planning in-water geotechnical borings in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
to obtain information for proposed intake structures and tunnels for proposed alignments of the water
conveyance facilities associated with the Bay Delta Conservation Plan. The public comment period is open
from June 26, 2009 to July 26, 2009.
Public Meetings regarding the EIR/EIS
EIR/EIS Scoping Meetings
12 scoping meetings were held throughout California to share the BDCP environmental review process and to solicit comments about the scope of the Environmental Impact Report and Environmental Impact Statement. The public comment period ended May 14, 2009. A scoping report will be available soon.
