Kasey D. Schimke Kasey Schimke was appointed Assistant Director of the Legislative Affairs Office by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on May 3, 2007. His responsibilities include monitoring and guiding legislation, and representing DWR before the State Legislature. He also assists the Director in policy discussions with the Governor's Office, government agencies, and private groups. Schimke served as staff in the California State Legislature for more than eight years. During this time he served as both committee and personal staff to several members of the Legislature, including Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny, former Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa, Assemblymember Virginia Strom-Martin, and Assemblymember Carole Migden. From 2000 to 2005, Schimke served as a Consultant to the Assembly Budget Committee, where his assignment included reviewing the budgets of the departments of the Resources Agency, CalEPA, and the Department of Food and Agriculture. During this time, he was involved reviewing funding proposals and crafting implementing legislation relating to nearly $9.3 billion in environmental protection bonds approved by the voters between 2000 and 2002. Since 2005, Schimke served as staff to State Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny, where he worked on a broad range of issues, including water policy, budget, social services, agriculture, Indian gaming and tribal sovereignty. Schimke was born and raised in Lodi. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from San Francisco State University. Contact Information:
