  • Associate Information Systems Analyst (Specialist) ($4619-5897) - Division of Environmental Services, Interagency Information System Services and Environmental Water Quality & Estuarine Studies Branch, Sacramento (Final Filing Date: Until Filled). DES is seeking an experienced Associate Information Systems Analyst (Specialist) to join our team of software and web developers. DES programmer-analysts build and maintain custom software solutions to support the DWR’s environmental programs and activities. This is an excellent opportunity to use your talents to assist engineers and environmental scientists who use the information to operate the State Water Project, reduce impact to endangered species, provides drinking water to millions of citizens and water for California’s important agricultural community. The successful candidate will participate on application development project teams with other programmers and system analysts and must have the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with others. The team will analyze, design, program, test, and deploy custom application development projects, as well as maintain and enhance existing systems. Desirable Qualifications: Excellent communication and writing skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas, information and recommendations in a logical, accurate and non-technical manner. Experience with Windows and Unix Solaris Operating Systems, Informix, Web based interfaces, Oracle, GIS, SQL, SQLlite, Visio, Visual Basic, MS Office Professional, Microsoft software development technologies, Macromedia Dreamweaver, MS Frontpage, PERL, and JavaFollow.

  • Environmental Scientist ($3077-5711) - Division of Flood Management, Flood Protection Corridor and Floodway Corridor Grant Programs, Sacramento (Final Filing Date: 08/27/08). Participate in identifying, evaluating, screening, and ranking candidate projects for the Flood Protection Corridor and the Floodway Corridor grant programs. Assist with tracking project progress and expenditures, monitoring project activities, evaluating results, communicating with grantees, and periodic reporting. Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of floodplain ecology, project management, public outreach, computerized mapping, grant administration, and the California Environmental Quality Act. The ability to write and communicate effectively is also highly desirable.

Desirable Qualifications: Excellent spelling, grammar, interpersonal communication skills, and problem-solving skills; demonstrate aptitude for working with PC and application software; SAP experience; and be able to produce work products with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Research Writer ($4400-5348)- Division of Planning and Local Assistance, Publications Section, Sacramento (Final Filing Date: 09/09/08). Under the direction of a Supervisor of Technical Publications, the Research Writer is responsible for the technical evaluation, analysis, and presentation of data pertaining to water-related research projects and programs; serve as a subject-matter expert in the areas of written, oral, or multimedia (Web) technical data presentations, work cooperatively with DWR technical and management staff to ensure the success and integrity of technical and semi-technical projects through pre-established publication style rules; assist engineering and scientific staff to create publications that are clear and non-technical as well as conform to specific style and format requirements; must be able to work within short deadlines. Desirable Qualifications: Good oral and written communication skills, graphic design experience, and design software familiarity is preferable.

  • Staff Environmental Scientist ($5445-6575)- Division of Environmental Services, Suisun Marsh Compliance and Monitoring Section, Sacramento (Final Filing Date: 09/04/08). The Compliance and Monitoring Section is looking for a responsible and self-motivated Staff Environmental Scientist to provide support to the Section Chief, Branch Chief and Division Chief on technically and scientifically complex issues facing Suisun Marsh and future Suisun Marsh planning efforts. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing aspects of the Revised Suisun Marsh Preservation Agreement, tidal marsh restoration monitoring, environmental permitting and compliance, and supporting the development of the Habitat, Preservation, and Restoration Plan for the Suisun Marsh and other regional planning efforts. Incumbent will also have the opportunity to design and implement a pelagic productivity study in the Suisun Marsh. Desirable Qualifications: Ability to work cooperatively with others; and analyze data and present ideas and information effectively, both orally and in writing, GIS and database skills.

  • Student Assistant ($8.41-11.20/hour)- Division of Operations & Maintenance, Environmental Assessment Branch, Water Quality Section, Sacramento, Temporary Intermittent (Final Filing Date: 09/02/08). In a trainee capacity, assist the Water Quality Environmental Scientist by performing the more complex duties involved with data interpretation, management, tracking, and archiving of water quality data from hard copy field sheets to the electronic web based Water Data Library. Assist in the development of a data archiving system to streamline the inventory, tracking, data entry, storage, reporting, and web transfer of State Water Project water quality. Desirable Qualifications: Interest in water quality issues; knowledge and experience with computers and database, spreadsheet, and word processing software packages. Strong writing and presentation skills are also desirable. Must be able to work during school year, as well as during the summer. Student majoring in business administration, environmental science or similar science related majors are encouraged to apply.

  • Supervising Construction Engineer, Water Resources ($8097-9842) - Division of Engineering, Construction Office, Lancaster Project Headquarters, Lancaster, Nine Month Temporary Authorization (Final Filing Date: 08/29/08). Under general guidance, the incumbent is responsible for supervision of the office and staff of the Lancaster Project Headquarters and responsible for contract administration and construction supervision of the construction, alteration, repair, and erection of public works of the State Water Project and other facilities. Projects include work on embankments, dams, canals, levees, landslides, spillways, radial gates, bridges, intakes, and hydraulic structures. Desirable Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, technical proficiency with the construction of major public works, collaborative solution-oriented problem solving skills, good writing and documenting skills, ability to function equally effectively while self-directed and as a member of a team. There is a possibility that this position will become permanent.

  • Supervising Engineer, Water Resources ($8097-9842) - Division of Engineering, Civil Engineering Branch, Pipelines Section, Sacramento (Final Filing Date: 08/28/08). Incumbent plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Pipelines Section. These activities include the South Bay Aqueduct and East Branch Enlargement Phase II Projects and other State Water Project Facilities. The scope of the responsibility requires technical expertise in the design of water resources facilities and the field of hydraulics. This section also provides specialized engineering for the repair of Department pipelines. The successful candidate must coordinate work and communicate effectively with other Branches and Divisions, consultants, regulatory agencies, and the State Water Contractors. Desirable Qualifications: Extensive experience in design of hydraulic structures, experience as a Job Manager for construction contracts and the ability to communicate effectively.
