General Benefits as a DWR Engineer

Salary

  • Paid monthly.
  • Specified salary w/ annual raises within pre-determined “ranges”.
  • Direct deposit of payroll to financial institution.
  • Can hire above minimum rates for exceptional experience.
  • Union negotiated benefit increases.
  • Additional “overtime” pay for non-management positions.

Holidays

  • 13 paid State holidays per year (more than Federal Govt).
  • One Personal Holiday per year.

Retirement

  • Eligible for CalPers Retirment after vesting. http://www.calpers.ca.gov/
  • Can place additional money into 401(k) or 457 savings plans.

Health Benefits

  • Choice of several health, vision, and dental plans.
  • Large number of State employees reduces cost, with State paying a portion of the cost.
  • May enroll spouse / dependents.
  • May receive cash in lieu of health benefits.

Vacation / Sick Leave

  • 7 hours / month of vacation for first 3 years.
  • Can accumulate up to approximately 400 hours of vacation.
  • 8 hours / month of sick leave.
  • No limits on accumulated sick leave.
  • Sick leave can be used for self or family.
  • Unused sick leave can be used towards retirement.
  • May elect to switch to “Annual Leave” program which combines vacation and sick leave to earn 11 hours / month.
