Oroville Field Division is the furthest North portion of the State Water Project and is considered a multi-use facility.  Within the Field Division there are pump/generation plants, recreation and we provide flood control for the Northern Central Valley.

We are located about 80 miles North of Sacramento in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and 45 minutes drive South of Chico.  Oroville Dam is the tallest earth fill dam in North America at 925’ we are actually taller than the impressive Hoover Dam.  Water is discharged from the lake out the Hyatt Power Plant, three of the six units in the plant can be used as pumps.
The water then travels to the Thermalito Power Plant were three of the four low head units can be used as pumps.  The combined generating capacity of the facilities is 925 Mega Watts at a normal Lake Oroville elevation.

On Lake Oroville the recreation includes camp areas including floating campsites, marinas and it is said some of the best bass fishing in Northern California.  Through out the rest of the field division you will find picnic areas, a sail boat facility, seasonal boat races, a model plane airport, bike and horse trails; to name just a few.

Although not physically attached to the California Aqueduct we support pump operations by providing fresh water to the Sacramento Delta.  In the Oroville Field Division we utilize many different crafts in Operations and Maintenance Division of the State Water Project.
