Every year, the Department of Water Resources issues technical bulletins, reports, and other publications and media documenting
the measurement, protection, use, and management of California's water resources. This DWR Publications Repository is a partial
and growing list of the publications and other media produced and distributed by the Department.
In this list you find a variety of types of publications and other media ranging from print material, to audio and video files. If the publication or other media is available in electronic format, a link will point to the appropriate electronic file. Lake Oroville Runoff Enhancement Program Environmental Monitoring Report 1990-1994 12/01/1996 (PDF, 16.49 MB)Description: 'DWR conducted a study of the feasibility of using ground-based cloud seeding to augment snow pack on a portion of the Plumas and Tahoe National Forests from 1991 to 1994. Plumas National Forest required an environmental monitoring program to determine effects of the potential project on water quality, channel morphology, stream sedimentation, benthic macroinvertebrate populations, fish populations, streamflow and fish habitat.
Lake Perris 09/01/1997Description: The SWP’s southernmost reservoir is explained in this publication, which also discusses the benefits it provides such as water storage and fish and wildlife enhancement.
Lake Perris is also one of the most heavily used recreational lakes in the State Park system.

Land Retirement Final Report: San Joaquin Valley Drainage Implementation Program 02/10/1999 (PDF, 517 KB)Description: The initial scientific documentation which provided the basis for the choice of management alternatives, including land retirement, was an important part of the SJVDP. An extensive library (e.g., SJVDP, 1989; SJVDP, 1990, pages 163-175) of supporting measurements, technical analysis, maps, and models exist to
help quantify drainage conditions, understand drainage management, and assess the benefits from a regionally implemented plan. The initial assessment included a compilation of historical data, execution of baseline field studies for the period 1985 through 1988, and development of planning objectives, criteria, and performance standards based on water-quantity, water-quality (i.e., protection of aquatic life, wildlife, and public health) and land use (SJVDP, 1990, Tables 7, 15, 16).

Levee Analysis Methods (June 2009) 06/01/2009 (PDF, 201 KB)Description: To expedite improved management of flood risk, the Department of Water Resources is conducting levee evaluations in phases over a four to six-year period. During this time, technical specialists are reviewing existing levee historical data; conducting
field explorations (including drilling and geophysical methods) and associated laboratory testing; performing geotechnical engineering analyses; and preparing preliminary design and construction estimates for levee repairs and upgrades, where needed.
Levee Evaluation Program (June 2009) 06/01/2009 (PDF, 248 KB)Description: The Department of Water Resources is required to evaluate the current level of performance of the State-federal flood protection system2, including an estimate of the risk of levee failure, a discussion of the inspection and reviews performed, and recommendations regarding the levees and future work activities. Geotechnical engineering performed through the Urban and Non-Urban Levee Evaluation (ULE and NULE) Projects will help flood managers better understand overall flood risk in the Central Valley and evaluate alternative changes to the flood management system to better manage risk.

The report discusses loss of storage capacity in the reservoir due to sedimentation , and organic and inorganic parameters that contribute to the poor quality of potable water from the reservoir.

Logistics for Deploying Mobile Water Desalination Units 04/30/2009 (PDF, 301 KB)Description: Mobile water desalination units provide emergency water supply wherever and whenever needed. The units can be easily moved
(via air, land, or marine transport) and deployed to drought
stricken and water stressed areas. Mobile desalination units
provide a very flexible way of supplying potable water to
communities by hooking-up to existing municipal water storage
and delivery systems. They can also be quickly and easily
decommissioned or moved to other locations should drought
conditions ease.
Lower Butte Creek - Sutter Bypass DWR Pumping Plants Fish Screening Project 08/01/2004 (PDF, 20.05 MB)Description: The objective of this project is to reduce losses of adult and juvenile anadromous fish from the Sutter Bypass East Borrow Canal, which is part of the Lower Butte Creek stream system. Proposed structural modifications to the pumping plants include constructing juvenile fish screens and adult fish exclusion barriers at each of the three pumping plant sites.
