  The holding tanks are used to separate and hold fish that are not ready for processing to take eggs from the female and milt from the male. Concrete channels inside and outside of the spawning building connect the holding tanks to the spawning building, allowing for the movement of the fish.
The diagram below shows how the holding tank works from a side view. A movable sweep or crowder turns and directs fish to exit the tank.
