Mission Statement: The mission of the Office of Water Quality and Estuarine Ecology is to meet the overall water quality and estuarine ecology needs of the Department, and to provide a central point for the collection and dissemination of water quality and related ecological information for the Department and its stakeholders.

While the Office’s geographic focus is the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the State Water Project, it also provides support to other DWR divisions, offices, and stakeholders throughout the State in meeting their water quality, estuarine science, and analytical laboratory needs. This includes providing water quality and ecological data, information, and technical expertise in support of State Water Project operations and regulatory compliance, and associated scientific research and synthesis, adaptive management, long-range planning, and policy development. Environmental Water Quality and Estuarine Studies

Collects data on the factors that affect ecological resources in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Estuary and converts those data into information for agency and public use. This program ensures compliance with the State Water Resources Control Board’s Water Rights Decision D-1641. Learn more...
