DWR is committed to following scientifically-recognized best practices as it works on the 2017 update of the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan. It includes a Conservation Strategy that provides a comprehensive, long term approach to improving riverine habitat and floodplains as part of an integrated flood management plan.
The Conservation Strategy includes:

- a comprehensive and science-based approach to vegetation management.
- clear ecological targets with measurable objectives.
