BWFS/CVFSCS Technical Workshop: Getting to CVFPP Measurable Objectives (May)

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) will hold a technical workshop on Thursday, May 2, 2013, to focus on the approach for developing measurable objectives as part of the Basin-Wide Feasibility Studies and Central Valley Flood System Conservation Strategy. These objectives correspond directly to the goals identified in the 2012 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan (CVFPP), available for download in the Documents section.

During the workshop, DWR will provide an overview on the process for developing measurable objectives, and provide a status update on their development.  DWR will be seeking technical input from workshop participants on the types of metrics that could be used to measure progress on the objectives, and will discuss next steps in further articulating measurable objectives. The workshop will not focus on broader CVFPP issues.

The Department of Water Resources held two web-based orientation briefings (webinar) on DWR’s planning activities supporting the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan implementation. The orientation briefings provided information on the State-led planning efforts to refine the physical features of the 2012 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan: two Basin-Wide Feasibility Studies (BWFS), and the Central Valley Flood System Conservation Strategy (Conservation Strategy). The webinar provided attendees with information on the scope, purpose, and approach to developing the BWFS and Conservation Strategy.  The sessions also described integration of the BWFS and Conservation Strategy, coordination with the locally-led Regional Flood Management Planning efforts, and opportunities to get involved. The briefings covered the same agenda.

Toggle Image Round 2 Management Actions Workshops

Round 2 Management Actions Workshops include three community application workshops and one integration workshop. Each is intended to further define management actions to be considered for the 2012 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan. As with the 11 category-based workshops held in Round 1, these Round 2 workshops are intended to provide cross-regional, interdisciplinary participation by work group members, subject-matter experts, and interested parties and the public. A complete list of topics for each workshop can be found below. To provide an accurate headcount for materials and seating, please select the appropriate RSVP for each workshop you plan to attend.

All workshops will be held at MWH Americas, 3321 Power Inn Road, Suite 300, Sacramento, Calif. Please note that because these workshops are anticipated to be highly interactive with participants and staff, a webinar is not being provided during this round. However, a comment form will be available for those who cannot attend in person, and a detailed meeting summary will be available after the workshops. Materials will also be brought back to the Regional Management Action Work Groups.

For additional questions about the workshop, contact Alex Tollette at 916-418-8320 or Alexandra.Tollette@mwhglobal.com.

The Central Valley Flood Management Planning Program held two, day-long workshops on the technical analyses supporting the 2012 Central Valley Flood Protection Plan. The June 2 and 10, 2011, workshops in West Sacramento and Stockton, respectively, provided an overview of analyses supporting development of the State Systemwide Investment Approach (SSIA), including evaluation methods and initial findings. Each workshop reviewed the same materials and agenda. The SSIA, in part, incorporates elements from three alternative approaches to flood management: Achieve State Plan of Flood Control Design Capacity; Protect High Risk Communities; and Enhance Flood System Capacity. For more information on the SSIA and other alternative approaches, or to review the audio and presentation materials from the May 2011 webinars, select the CVFPP Webinar Briefings section.
